Kenyan Community Initiative Support (KCIS) is a non-profit
organisation based in Kenya. The organisation will be seeking NGO
status in Kenya.
KCIS looks for ways to improve life
for the poorest people, and at the same time helping to conserve the
environment, by taking away the necessity to chop down trees, by conserving
water and by using waste to make fertiliser to improve soil, thereby
giving better crops.
We believe that it is better to give people a way to
earn an income, or grow sufficient crops, so that they can support themselves
and their families with dignity, rather than constant hand-outs.
We research and develop simple-to-use, low-technology
ways to improve life in rural areas:
- Water Purification (hand-in-hand with personal
hygiene education for children)
- Methane collectors to provide fuel for cooking,
to run a generator or borehole pump, etc.
- Water collection
- Mosquito & larva control to help eradicate
malaria
- Solar food cooling
Then we show people how to use
them, make them and maintain them.
We have expertise in mechanical engineering,
electrics, solar energy.
We also run the Twiga Children's
Home in Kisii
Our dream, however far-fetched, is that all children in Kenya should
have as good a start in life as possible, to make them useful citizens
in the future.
KCIS believes that:
Everyone has the right to earn a reasonable income.
All children, regardless of race, colour, ethnicity or creed have
the right to good health, an education and a proper home.
