Vehicle
My feet is my only carriage, So I've got
to push on through.(Bob Marley)
Our
most pressing need is for a vehicle. We are looking for a 7+ seater,
either a 4x4 or a minibus. We will accept anything that is reliable -
cosmetics are not a priority.
It must be capable of surviving the wonderful Kenyan
roads.
We would like it to be diesel, as we be using our own,
home-made bio-fuel, and an automatic would be good as one of our directors
is disabled (although we will certainly not refuse a manual gearbox).
Obvious choices are:
Mitsubishi Pajero
Toyota HiLux or Surf
Nissan Navara
Isuzu Trooper or derivative
Toyota/Nissan/Mitsubishi minibus (ex-matatu)
Apart from getting from place to place, the vehicle
will be used for carrying raw materials to River Cottage, and taking
the kids on trips (as well as to the hospital when necessary).
Digital Camera
This may seem a bit of a luxury, but it is surprising how useful
a digital camera can be when you are looking after 40 children. We try
to keep a good record of every child and a photograph is essential.
Photos are needed to post on the website and we post photos in our
newsletters, etc.
It does not have to be state of the art, but a built-in flash would
be an advantage, with a 3 mega-pixel resolution.
Update: Rob Mellor from Newbury has kindly
donated a digital camera to us, as well as a Palm Handheld computer,
which will be very useful for keeping the records of our children
(presently done with notebook and pencil).
Thanks Rob!
